Great River School is a Minnesota public charter Montessori and International Baccalaureate (IB) School that opened in August, 2004. Great River offers a challenging academic program by a teaching staff trained in Montessori education for secondary students. Currently, there are students in seventh-twelfth grade with an enrollment of approximately 230 students
The Mission Statement: Great River School, an urban Montessori learning community, prepares students for their unique roles as responsible and engaged citizens of the world.
The Board of Directors of Great River School is conducting a search for a long term Head of School. The Head of School will act as the executive director of the school and will be responsible for creating policies and procedures for the school, as well as for creating general administrative processes for the efficient running of the school. Qualified Candidates would bring a skill set that can manage the day to day business, as well as foster a passion and innovation to move Great River forward and incorporate the two philosophies of Montessori and IB. In addition, the Head of School will be able to work cooperatively with a number of constituencies, including but not limited to, the Board of Directors, the staff, student and parent community, regional and national Montessori and IB educational communities, and the Saint Paul public school administration.
Qualifications: We are seeking a visionary leader committed to academic excellence as well a continuous improvement. The successful candidate will be an energetic and enthusiastic leader with the following qualities and characteristics.
Public or private school administration or executive director experience
Demonstrates commitment to high levels of staff development, including aiding staff in gaining insights as to strengths and weaknesses, and to provide a vehicle of both formal and informal for continued improvements in job performance.
Demonstrates a keen understanding of Montessori education. Prefer candidates with Montessori training. If no Montessori training, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to Montessori principles and a willingness to consult with experienced Montessori educational advisors. In addition, the candidate will commit to attend the 6 week Montessori Adolescent Orientation Program which the school will support and fund.
Demonstrates commitment to cultural competency and addressing the needs of urban youth, family, and community.
Demonstrates competency in fiscal and organizational management. Prefer candidates with fundraising campaign experience.
Administrative or management experience in a non-profit or private sector organization. Prefer individuals who have successfully managed a staff of significant size.
Excellent writing and communication skills.
Experience with managing outside consultants.
Possesses the highest standards of professionalism, sincerity, honesty, and integrity.
Other statutory or regulatory requirements for the administrator of a Saint Paul public charter school as may be further identified in the search process.
