Introduction to Montessori Research

NAMTA's commitment to research goes back to its earliest days, when The NAMTA Journal vol. 2, no. 1 carried a bibliography for parents. In 1985, the first NAMTA Montessori Bibliography was published, compiled by Dr. Mary Maher Boehnlein. After two more print editions (1995 and 2002), NAMTA's comprehensive bibliography of Montessori sources in English from 1909 to the present has been released as a searchable database, The NAMTA Montessori Bibliography Online. This unparalleled resource allows users to search more than 16,000 citations, most of which are available from our extensive Archives. Thanks to generous support from The Hershey Foundation, subscriptions to the Online Bibliography are kept very affordable.

In addition to its tools for research, NAMTA has teamed with celebrated psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi to sponsor a research project coupling Prof. Csikszentmihalyi's "flow" theory with Montessori normalization theory. Current studies from this project have appeared in The NAMTA Journal and are available as free downloads.
