Milwaukee Public Schools—Montessori Primary, Elementary, and Adolescent Teachers Needed. Applications are being accepted for the 2008-09 school year for all levels, primary, lower elementary, upper elementary and adolescent (3 years to 15 years. This includes exceptional education resource Montessori trained teachers. Applications for program coordinators (primary and elementary training plus teaching experienced is required) who would implement Montessori curriculum and pedagogy are being accepted. The district strongly supports Montessori education. All classrooms have a full complement of materials and assistant support.
There are now five public Montessori schools in the Milwaukee Public School System (MPS) with over 50 trained Montessori teachers at all levels serving over 2,000 students. Teachers are continually involved in a variety of staff development opportunities with national Montessori teacher trainers. Minimum starting teacher salary is $34,858 including an attractive benefit and retirement package. Additional experience and certification increases the salary base. AMI or AMS certification is required as well as a willingness to participate in a WI state certification program tailored for only Montessori teachers.
