Hudson Montessori School in Hudson Ohio is celebrating its 45th year of operation. We are located in a small historic town situated between Cleveland and Akron close to many cultural and educational opportunities. Our staff is dedicated to Montessori education and we form a supportive and lively community. Our school consists of five Children’s House, three lower elementary, two upper elementary classrooms, and an adolescent program.

We seek a Montessori trained generalist to serve as guide in our adolescent program. This adolescent program is in its fourth year of operation under the leadership of Patricia Ludick. Our program is based on the village model and is devoted to Montessori principles and pedagogy of place. We are in our own building in a homelike setting on the school’s campus. The successful candidate will have flexibility, energy, sense of humor, excellent communication skills, and an understanding and respect for adolescent development. A strong language arts and science background is an asset. A master’s degree and teaching experience are preferred.

Xavier University, a private, Catholic, Jesuit university located in Cincinnati, Ohio, is seeking applications for the position of Director of Montessori Programs. This twelve-month position begins June 2008. This position will work within the Department of Childhood Education and Literacy. The Director of Montessori Programs is responsible for the overall administration of Montessori Education Programs, including overseeing the Montessori Lab School (one pre-primary and one elementary classroom) and administering the Montessori Teacher Education Program.
Other responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: recruit and retain students for Lab School; recruit and retain undergraduate and graduate candidates for Montessori Education; maintain accreditation requirements as dictated by the AMS & MACTE; serve as a community liaison; work with the local Montessori community; participate in AMS and MACTE/IAME activities; teach university courses as determined by chair; advise graduate and undergraduate students; oversee Montessori Lab School and Montessori Teacher Education budget; schedule and staff semester courses; issue resolution with students, adjuncts and lab school issues when assistance is sought by principal of Lab School; appoint adjuncts; attend department and other applicable meetings; and evaluate staff and the Montessori Lab School to assure the standards of the teacher education program.
Qualifications: Master’s degree in Education or related field; American Montessori Society (AMS) teaching credential at pre-primary and/or elementary level; state teaching certificate; minimum of three years as a Montessori classroom teacher; knowledge of AMS and MACTE accreditation procedures; Montessori school administration experience; active membership in AMS; and university teaching experience preferred.
